Chapter 51 The Snail Shell House - part 4 - Miracles or Science"?

This is the art I made to go with this story. It is sold, but it is also featured in the book I made called “Gems I Hold Dear”, which can be found on my website in the books section.

The Snail Shell House - part 4 - Miracles or Science?

On the last day of that first summer building the snail shell house, it was time to put the pond liner over the plywood, and the white tarps over the sun roof.  We had been covering the whole thing with big tarps up till that day to keep the rain off the roof, but we were about to leave for our trip back to Florida for the winter, and I wanted to at least get the more sure water barriers up before we left.

It was November, we had had a surprisingly dry fall, but this day the sky was overcast, heavy and dark with rain clouds.

There was some temptation to simply leave the roof tarped until the following summer, but I wanted to try to get the roof covered better.  Leaving the roof tarped would invite pockets of heavy pooling water over the sun roof, where there were uncovered gaps between the rafters, and I didn’t want to leave the snail shell house susceptible to that, while no one was in the house to release the pressure of the water buildup.

So we untarped the roof, and began working.

During the morning, the sky started sprinkling a few drops of rain.  One of my sons said, “Well, we better tarp it up and call it done.”

I said, “No, it can’t rain yet, we’re not finished.”  I felt like I was telling the sky more than I was telling my son.  I felt a connection to the sky.

It stopped raining.

We kept working.

I would not let anyone stop for lunch or dinner.  My husband and I and our three teen age sons worked through the usual break times, eating little peanut butter and honey sandwiches while we worked.  I felt that if we stopped working, the sky would not take us seriously and it would start raining.

There was another point in the afternoon when the clouds started sprinkling drops of rain.  Again, my son suggested we tarp the roof up and be done.  Again, I insisted, very strongly, “It can’t rain yet.  It can’t rain until we are finished!”

Again, I felt like I was talking more the the weather than to my son.

It stopped raining and we continued working.

We worked all through the day and into the night, with flashlights and headlamps as our only light.

By the time we finished putting the last tarp over the skylight area, and securing it with rocks until the next summer when we would cover the pond liner with dirt, it was completely dark.

One of my sons and I were on the roof as we finished.  Exhausted after a grueling day of work, we laid down on the roof to rest a minute, and with our faces to the sky, we saw the miracle.

The entire sky was clouded over, all the way to the horizon, with thick dark clouds … all except for a circle of stars above us, where no clouds were.

I was shocked, but I realized how beautifully the weather cooperated with us, and I felt so much love.

I was filled with love and gratitude for the connection with the weather I got to experience that day.

Honestly, I believe we are all connected like that, but we forget to be aware of, and nurture, that connection.

Thanks to Tom Brown Jr, I learned about that connection.

Another tidbit Tom taught us in class was, “The greater the need, the greater the results.”

Well, our need that day was great, and the results were … well, there are no words to describe my feelings about the results we experienced that day.  I can still feel that feeling.

It could be called a miracle, but I believe one day, if it hasn’t already happened in some small laboratory somewhere, science will prove our individual connection to everything around us.
