Chapter 32 Post it Notes - from my book Changes
Chapter 32
Post it Notes
On my first vision quest, done in the tradition of the Apache Elder Grandfather Stalking Wolf, run by Malcolm Ringwalt of theonenessquest.com, we not only set up our quest sites, and quested, but we learned some philosophy from our quest protector, Malcolm.
One of my favorite lectures had to do with breaking through to the world of spirit.
Malcolm compared our interface between the physical world and spiritual worlds to a light bulb. The light inside the bulb is perfect and bright, untainted and eternal. The glass of the bulb is the container holding the perfect light, within the physical world we live in. As we experience things in the physical world, we begin to draw conclusions and make notes for ourselves. We place those notes on the inside of our light bulb, between our perfect light and the outside world, and those notes become our filters.
Soon, the inside of our bulb becomes filled with these little post it notes and we can no longer see the world as it is, but only as our filters allow.
Spiritual experiences poke little holes through our filters, allowing us to glimpse the world as it really is for a moment. The more spiritual experiences we have, the more little holes get poked through the post it note filters and allow a more perfect view.
Over time, and with continued exposure to the real world through the purity of spirit, we begin to see everything more clearly, like a clear picture emerging from confusion.
Another comparison Malcolm made was that of a jigsaw puzzle where all the pieces, based on our imperfect understanding of our previous experiences, are mixed up on the board. With each clear spiritual experience, one little piece of the puzzle gets put into it’s appropriate place. Another experience, another little puzzle piece gets set into place. Over and over, seeking out truth through spirit, continues revealing more and more of the bigger truth.
To say that our post it notes, or puzzle pieces all messed up, are false is both a true and false statement. True because that was truly our experience as we perceived it. False because our perception was not the whole picture, and was tainted by our filters. Our “little t” truths are true, and yet are not the “capital T” Truth. Still, all are valid experiences.
The fun part is: we get to explore all of it! The more wide eyed and amazed I am, the happier I am, and the more excited about life I am!
I have heard how glorious it is to be on the other side, after we die, but I am having so much fun, I would love to live forever between these worlds, and have time to explore everything.
