Chapter 18 Learning to Move Energy — from my book Changes

A simple stick can be used because it is connected to all the plants.

Chapter 18

Learning to move energy

Every day during Phil 1, Tom had us go to our personal sit areas in the morning, where we would spend about 20 minutes simply being in nature, away from everyone else; relaxing and taking in the natural world.

I once heard Tom say, if there was any one thing he would recommend always doing, it would be to spend time in our personal sit area at home, outside, every morning, taking in the natural world, and practicing our skills - whether physical or spiritual.

And Tom believed the spiritual skills outweighed the physical skills in importance.  He said if he had to choose between a group of people who were well versed in the physical skills but without the spiritual skills, and a group of people well versed in the spiritual skills and not the physical skills, he would choose to be in the group with the spiritual skills.  Why?  Because, when you need it, the spirit can teach you what you don’t know, and what you need.  With spiritual skills, a person can ask where to find shelter, or where the best water is, and be guided to it.  With only physical skills, a person would have to search 360 degrees, without any guidance, to find what they’re looking for, and that would take so much longer.

One day Tom had us go to our sit area and collect a small stick.  We were to sit there with that stick and memorize how it looked, what it felt like in our hands, and spend time holding it.  Then he had us bring the stick back to the lecture hall, without showing it to anyone, and hide it in our belongings.

Later that day, he had us get the stick and hold it while he led us in a meditation to teach us how to gather and store energy.

Tom had us pull energy from the entire plant world, through that little stick, and into our chest.  Then we compressed that energy until it was a little ball the size of a marble.  Then he had us move that little ball slowly down the center of our body, like it was moving through honey, to our waist.  Next, he had us move it a little to the left and leave it there.

Tom said that these little energy packets from nature can be brought back up later, and used to help someone who needs it. Or, a little packet of energy will just go to someone all on its own, when you don’t even expect it, if they need it.

Later in the day, Tom led us in a meditation involving our partner.  We brought that little ball of energy up into our chest, let it expand, and then, while sitting in back of our partner, with our hand on their back, we released the energy into them.  Then we discussed what they felt.

It was such an interesting experience to feel the energy being sent to us from our partner.  Some partners felt it like a little firework going off and spreading out.  Some felt it like a gentle waterfall.  Each person had their own unique experience. Some could even see and describe the stick their partner used when pulling in and storing the energy.

Moving energy would be used later, in many applications, in Trackerschool Philosophy classes.
