Day 9 “Hidden Gems”

When my husband left me

Pregnant with our fifth child,

My whole world came crashing down.

All that I had trusted,

All I had been taught,

All I had worked for,

Changed to something I did not know

How to navigate.

When I prayed for relief from the pain

I would be numbed

For awhile.

Sometimes hidden gems

Come from the most difficult times.

It took me many years to find the hidden gems here.

I learned that no matter our efforts,

Someone else can change our world.

I learned that someone in dire straits

May not be to blame.

I learned that letting go of my faith

Only hurts me,

Leaving me hanging onto a thread

Of knowledge

At the bottom of a well.

These are the gems that nightmare gave me.

Gems of understanding,

And compassion,

And forgiveness.

Even for the one that

I thought

Pushed me into the well.
