Chapter 20 Practicing at the Veil on my Own — from my book Changes

Chapter 20

Practicing at the Veil on my Own

There is something special about the medicine place in that each person is perfectly safe there.  If anything ever comes into someone’s medicine place that they don’t want to be there, or feel threatened by, they can zapp it with light.  If it is something bad it will leave, if it is something good it will thank us.

Tom told us not to venture beyond the veil that separates our medicine place from the rest of the spirit world.  Tom took us there later, but told us that even after we start going past the veil, we should only go there when directed by inner vision and have a purpose beyond ourselves, or we will be vulnerable to attack from the dark side.

That night, when I lay in bed in my sleeping bag, in a corner of the lecture hall  (I chose to sleep indoors rather than in my tent because it was warmer and the indoor bathroom was easy to get to), I decided to practice asking a question at the veil on my own.

So I went through the long form meditation, which is what we called it when we went from the beginning of the relaxation sequence, all the way to the medicine place. Once in my medicine place, I stood in my sacred area, the safest place there, and began bringing the veil toward me.

I tend to be in too big of a hurry sometimes, and I guess I brought the veil in too fast because it wasn’t slowing down soon enough. It was so huge it took up the entire horizon and swallowed up everything as it came toward me.  As it got closer, I tried to stop it, but even though the veil had slowed down considerably, it had not quite stopped.

Not wanting to miss the opportunity to ask my question, I hurriedly opened the veil and saw the crushed skeleton again, only this time it was coming toward me along with the veil.

I got scared and zapped it with light and shut the veil.  But the veil didn’t stop. It overtook me, leaving me floating in nothingness as my medicine place was eaten up by the veil.

I was stranded in nothingness! I couldn’t get any traction to move anywhere.  I began to panic because I knew I wasn’t supposed to go beyond the veil yet.

Then I remembered I could shift.  So I shifted to the bottom of the stairs, ran up them, and back out along the path of the subconscious, and back to the physical.

The next day I told Tom what had happened and asked why the veil ate up my medicine place.

After listening, Tom said, in a seemingly nonchalant manner, “You just lost control of it.  You have to slow it down sooner,” and walked away.
